Praxis: Profanation: Preparation for a Coming Darkness

Bill Laswell (bass), Brian Carroll (better known as Buckethead - guitar) and Bryan "Brain" Mantia (drums) go nuts on their new album Profanation: Preparation for a Coming Darkness. Operating as Praxis they have come up with funky post-grunge heavy metal collection of songs that are rammed into your skull. A ton of guests have joined for the fun, including Iggy Pop, Mike Patton, Doctor Israel, Wu-Tang protégé Killah Priest and Jamaica-born toaster Hawk.

It's like a soundtrack for a post-apocalyptic blockbuster. All the loudness aside, Iggy Pop steals the show with a laconic vocals for Furies, sounding like a Wagnerian priest introducing the Valkyrs. Another stand-out track is Ruined, with Buckethead cutting loose on guitar, sounding like Vernon Reid meeting David Gilmour, with Brain dropping bombs on the bass drum. Breather tracks are the menacing dub Babylon Blackout and the album's closer End Time, with mournful guitars playing on top of funeral march drum. Not a party record as such, but it will go down like a storm during doom themed gatherings.

Profanation: Preparation for a Coming Darkness is released on M.O.D. Technologies. Release date: February 8.
