Howe Gelb: ‘Sno Angel + Melted Wires 7 inch for Record Store Day

Two sides of eclectic Tuscon, AZ, songwriter Howe Gelb are captured on the Sno Angel + Melted Wires 7 inch, a Record Store Day release by speciality label Fort Lowell Records.

‘Sno Angel is Gelb live in 2006 with this his Canadian based touring band backed by the Voices Of Praise choir. They lay down an inspired of rendition Spiral, starting out with Gelb singing and playing the piano, the song building and unfolding slowly as an angry song about the current state of things. It was previously released on the live album ‘Sno Angel Winging It in 2009.

Melted Wires is Gelb wearing his jazz hat, with John Convertino (drums), Jacob Valenzuela (trumpet), and Thøger T. Lund (upright bass), names that will ring a bell among Calexico and Giant Sand fans. The previously unreleased instrumental Cordoba in Slow Motion, is a tribute to Fifties late night jazz, slow and melancholic, with delicate interplay between the trumpet and the brushes.

‘Sno Angel + Melted Wires is released by Fort Lowell Records on 7 inch blue vinyl, limited to 750 copies. Comes with a digital download card. MP3s are mastered for digital playback. Release date: April 16.
