Marianne Faithfull: The Gypsy Faerie Queen (ft. Nick Cave)

The new Marianne Faithful single The Gypsy Faerie Queen was inspired by Shakespeare's play A Midsummer Night's Dream. The song was co-written with Nick Cave, who also played piano and provided backing vocals.

It’s a little miracle. I asked Nick if he would put music to it and he wrote back saying, ‘I’m so busy.’ I said, ‘I understand, sorry to bother you.’ Then he just wrote back, ‘Thank you so much for understanding; here’s the song.’ It’s just gorgeous.

It's a ballad about getting older and longing for another, better world that has eluded her for as long as she can remember. It is the first taste from her new album Negative Capability, out on November 2.
